Hey! I’m Amanda, and I am SO glad you are here. At The Kolb Corner, I blog about food, crafts and diy, with an emphasis on frugality. I’m in constant search of how to quench my expensive wine thirst on a PBR budget. My husband and I just bought a new home that we are working towards making our own, so pull up a chair, grab some coffee, and check out what we have been up to!
A little background on me:
I grew up in rural central Illinois–basically on a river bluff that was also surrounded by corn fields.
I met my husband in 2006 while working together at The Home Depot. After I graduated from college in 2009, we moved from central Illinois to Chattanooga, TN on a whim. When people ask us why we ended up in Chattanooga, we don’t really have a good answer. We knew we wanted out of Illinois, and Chattanooga was beautiful. Why not? We were young and adventurous after all…
In 2010 we bought our first house and got engaged. Our first home was a decent size for the two of us, but it needed so much work. It was definitely a learning experience for us, figuring out how to fix things ourselves, since hiring professionals just wasn’t in our post college/graduate school budget.
We married in October 2011 on the beautiful beaches of Riviera Maya, Mexico. It was a very easy wedding to plan, but I was still able to put a little bit of me into it.
In 2013 my husband finished his Master’s Degree in Computer Science and moved us 1000 miles West to Austin, TX. Neither one of us ever pictured ourselves living out West, so it was definitely an adjustment for us.
The “Keep Austin Weird” lifestyle never really appealed to us, so when my husband was presented with an opportunity to take a new job in San Antonio in September 2014, he took it. San Antonio is still Texas, but we feel more at home here.
In November 2014 we bought a house that is completely different from our first home in Tennessee. It’s bigger, it’s 2 stories–and it has more than one tiny bathroom. It’s definitely not a fixer-upper, but it is still pretty boring. You can see the whole house tour HERE. We are slowly working our way through, room to room, and putting our creative touch on it.
Along the way we’ve acquired some crazy fur babies–2 cats and a dog. Jack is the alpha cat, who loves nothing more than to find your most precious items and push them off whatever surface they are perched on. He can also be the best snuggler. William is our other cat, and Jack’s brother. He is a very independent cat who loves lying in unexpected places–like the bathroom sink, or in my closet underneath my long dresses. Delilah is our dog and she is my favorite (don’t tell the boys!) For being mostly lab, she’s pretty lazy. She’s also a little neurotic and scared of about 209,398,293 inanimate objects. We love her anyway.
I’ve worked as a Veterinary Technician for the past 5 years, which explains my
slightly obsessive behavior towards my animals, as well as the thousands upon thousands of Instagram photos I post of them.
I have a degree in Interior and Environmental Design that I never pursued after college. I still put it to good use every so often when I’m day dreaming about how I can transform a space.
My passions include: Baking. Cooking. Trying a new recipe. Thrift Store shopping. Antique Malls. Target’s Clearance and Dollar Spot. My dog. Growing my own food. Making things from scratch. Reading. Organizing. Loving my husband. Interior Design. Re purposing every day items. Couponing. Saving Money. Wasting an entire day on Pinterest. Furniture Rehab. Being outdoors. Veterinary Medicine. Historic Houses. Estate Sales.
Some of my pet peeves: People that drive slower than the speed limit. Left lane cruisers. Being interrupted. Hypocrisy. Not using a blinker. Shopping carts left in the parking lot to blow around and dent cars<—this has happened to me!
My Dreams and Goals: Have my own homestead with acreage. Start a family. Be a stay at home mommy. Raise chickens. Live Debt Free. Have a garden big enough to live off of year round. Grow old with my husband.
