For the last 6 months, I have been trying to cut back on the things I would usually buy pre packaged and have been making my own. Things like seasoning packets, soup mixes, and baking mixes. Now that we are in our 30 Days of Real Food challenge, I’ve been making even more things from scratch.
One really simple, quick to prepare seasoning mix you can do at home is Taco Seasoning. If you eat Tacos or Fajitas or any other mexican dish that would regularly call for Taco Seasoning as regularly as we do, you go through A LOT of those packets pretty quickly. Not only are they expensive–$0.50 each and up–but they are packed full of extra sodium and MSG. Stuff you shouldn’t be putting in your body.
So since I’ve been making this for awhile, I thought I would share my recipe with you. I combined a few different recipes that I came across back when I first started making this homemade to get the right flavor.
First, take all of your ingredients, and combine them in a mixing bowl
Then transfer to an airtight container. You could use a tupperware container, an old spice jar, or–like me–an old parmasean bottle.
See how easy that was to make?
- 1/2 cup Chilli Powder
- 1/4 cup Onion Powder
- 1/8 cup Cumin Powder
- 1/4 cup Garlic Powder
- 1 tbsp Paprika
- 1 tbsp Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Crushed Red Pepper (optional for heat)
- Mix ingredients together in a bowl.
- Transfer to an air tight container
